Since its huge success with the P168 iPhone clone, CECT has been rolling out replicas of best selling phones non stop. This cell phone manufacturer has peaked at the perfect time. With the economy the way that it is, it makes perfect sense not to pay full, expensive price for technology that is constantly changing. More, the price for cell phone networks and plans varies greatly and can be quite pricey. If you went with AT&T’s service that goes hand in hand with Apple’s iPhone, you’d be paying at least $100 per month for very basic service. For those of us who balk at that, the clones are a great option.
Additionally, the manufacturer has added a removable battery on the clones so that we don’t have to run to the manufacturer every time the battery dies. This too, saves money.
The new CECT S688 is among the newest models for CECT. This phone has added a few new features like an e-book reader, an 3.5 mm output headphone, and an FM radio, but where it really shines is in its sleeker, smaller size and its super fast performance.
I’ve run several side by side tests between this phone and other clones that I own and without fail, this one always wins. That said, all of the clones are fast, so when I say this, I don’t mean a huge difference, but a definite difference that is there if this is important to you.
The camera in this one is also upgraded to 2.0 mega pixels. Most of the clones similar to this one (HiPhone, A380i, P168) get by with 1.3 MP.
This 688 is not a shake and tilt clone. So, if this is important to you, you may be happier with the HiPhone, but if you’re looking for a fast, newer model and you don’t care about changing the music by shaking the phone, this one may be worth a look.
All of the other features are here, including: the ability to surf the web; email and text; listen to and watch MP3s and MP4s; take digital photos and video on the built in camera and webcam; and enjoy Bluetooth 2.0.
I find the e-book reader to be particularly useful. So many documents today are stored on PDF and I download many e-books that I never get around to reading, but having the ability to read them on the phone opens up more opportunities to get around to them.
It appears many people are willing to trade shake and tilt for a slightly faster model, as the S688 has been a brisk seller from the get go. It starts at around $120, which is about average for a model with all these features.
