It’s been very interesting to watch the evolution of the iPhone clones. At first, they focused soley on improving upon the iPhone in small ways, like adding more slim slots and speakers, allowing you to change the battery yourself, and freeing you to use your own carrier or network.
Then, over time, fun features like TV, webcams, WiFi, and GPS began to be added, as the clones established themselves as stable competitors who roll out quality products. This article will focus on and compare the TV / texting iPhone clones. Unless noted otherwise, all of these phones are loaded with dual sim slots, built in digital cameras / web cams, MP3/MP4, web browsing and emailing, and Bluetooth. All are well under $150, sometimes much less.
CECT A988: I hesitate to even put this one in the same category with analog phones, but I will because it is a very useful one. The A988 has the “TV out” feature which means that you can connect your phone to your television so that you can watch your video and images on a bigger screen. This phone looks almost identical to and is based on the iPhone, with a small scroll bar at the bottom.
D2000: This mobile phone has the true analog TV and it is probably the least expensive by far. The drawback with it is that it only covers the 1900 band. If your carrier works with this band (T mobile and Cingular often do) then you’re good to go at a very low price. The D2000 is silver with a keyboard on the bottom. It doesn’t look that much like the iPhone.
TV666: This one is rare in that it is a quad band. This means that it works with almost all GSM carriers just by inserting your sim card. It too has a full keyboard as well as analog television and it is a great option if you need a quad band model (especially AT&T users on the 850 band.)
N99i: I would call this one the best seller. I believe this is because the sound on the N99i is so good and the television images are so sharp. And for the longest time, this one was really the only decent messaging clone. It has a full sized, generous keyboard. When the TV feature was added, so was double Bluetooth, and a better camera as well. This one is really quite loaded and high performing, and usually pretty inexpensive too.
